How it works

Inside a 3.5 hour class.

The class runs on a ten week rhythm that alternates between two pairings, so all three OC sections get real depth rather than a quick pass. Every week is a timed test first, a review of that student's own answers second.

  • Reading40 minutes, 14 questions
  • Mathematical Reasoning40 minutes, 35 questions
Arrival
Log in and settle

Students take a computer in the testing lab and log into their Test Academy account. Online students join the same room on video and work the same way.

About an hour, timed
Two fresh papers under exam conditions

The papers are written new for each batch, aimed at the weaknesses the analytics picked up and at the question types the OC test keeps coming back to. The clock runs the whole time.

Even weeks: the second paper is a mastery test, built from the question types that student is still getting wrong.

15 minutes, snack break
The break, and what the tutors do in it

While the students eat, the teacher reads the class analytics: which questions went wrong most often, which ones ate the clock, and which mistakes are repeating.

Then a booklet is printed for each student. It holds their own answers, what was right and wrong, the time spent on every question, and a blank space under each one to redo it at home.

About two hours
Whiteboard review, taught from their own booklets

The teacher works through the paper on the interactive whiteboard: the fastest way into each question type, the concept behind it, and where the trap was. With eight students in the room, nobody sits through a question they already had right without being asked a harder one.

After the class
Feedback, homework and the parent dashboard

The booklet goes home. Written feedback lands on your dashboard with the mock tests and LearningHub sets chosen for your child that week, and the teacher is there at pickup if you want to ask. Once a term you sit down with them properly.

Good test material. Helps to prepare for the real test. Recommended for all.

great tests. the worked solutions are good, especially for maths because it is handwritten and detailed so my son can learn by himself. thinking skills can get hard.

Steven Handel

Nice tests and good online platform, recommend.

Pedram Mohammadi

Really nice tests. But wow, some of the thinking skills were really hard for me and my daughter. The math questions at the end of tests are also hard and creative.

Hard to find websites that offer quality selective tests for a reasonable price so I'm really glad I found this one. My son loves the layout of the website and the formatting makes the content more enjoyable for him.

Adam Nguyen

This is great. I am a student in year 6 and now I feel very confident.

Quality test material at an affordable price. I bought Selective test modules for my son. The questions are a good mix of various styles and difficulty levels. A detailed explanation of answers is a big plus. Highly recommended.

Test academy is a great package, it helped my sibling a lot with preparing for the selective tests. Many other places are too expensive and don't have quality material, or some don't even have answers. But when I found Test Academy, my problems were solved. Answers to all the questions, which was beneficial because there were a lot of difficult and challenging questions, so the solutions helped my sister understand how to answer the question. Great Value for money, and very satisfied with the test material

Testacademy is excellent. Very resourceful and helpful for my kid. It builds confidence in his selective test. He enjoys practising tests and writing task. There are many coaching centres and online test packs. But Test Academy provides questions way similar to Selective test and their team have motto of each and every kid should have access to it.

After my son had a very bad experience on another platform, I decided to try test academy and he is very happy now. The platform is well designed and fast, questions are very interesting, and the explanations are really helpful. I think the tests are a bit more difficult than the past NSW selective papers, but this is a good thing because my son will be more prepared for the real thing. The writing system is also amazing, my son is actually starting to enjoy writing now and the feedback has helped him improve. Totally worth the price!

Laetitia Fishcer

Excellent platform to help kids for selective exam. The team understands what exactly a student requires to prepare and provide as much as related straight forward assistance via platform.

Trupti Kotadia

Excellent platform, interface and questions for selective prep. Solutions are simple and easy to understand in steps. Great for building confidence in children, my child’s confidence has improved. I really liked the feedback provided and model writing provided for writing. Thanks Arya for your kindness and generosity.. I wish the whole team all the best!

We’re so proud of our daughter’s progress in thinking skills where she used to struggle. Thanks to the support from test academy, she went into the selective test feeling prepared and walked out confident in her performance. The improvement has been amazing, huge thanks to the team for helping her reach this point!

The platform really helped my son get into the top writing band in selective tests 2025. Amazing team who took our feedback on the platform and also implemented possible ones. Big shout out the entire crew!

We’ve had such a positive experience with Test Academy Tutoring run by Arya and Aryan. The flexiclasses have been a particularly helpful addition, offering that extra layer of support to further enhance both our kids’ capacities. The flexible nature of the program means they can focus on areas where progress is needed, while still maintaining consistency with the theory being covered. What really stands out is the dedication and care Arya and Aryan put into every session. They create an encouraging environment where the kids feel motivated and supported, and it’s clear how much thought and effort goes into their approach. We’re so grateful for the way they nurture learning while ensuring steady progress is made.

We are so happy with test academy for selective test preparation. The teacher is incredible and our daughter actually say she looks forward to class. The technology they use is advanced, nothing like anything I have seen. Online student platform is very useful for her practice. Other big tutoring centres we went to for long time before here are way behind. She has made major improvements in her weakest sections and is more confident now. Thank you.

Test Academy’s teachers are compassionate, knowledgeable, and creative. My daughter’s confidence in maths grew significantly in just one term, and her second school report clearly showed a meaningful improvement in her mathematical skills. My son, even though he is in kindergarten and not usually a fan of school, absolutely loves his classes at Test Academy and remembers what he learns there. We are very grateful for the supportive and inspiring environment they create for children.

Simin Gouran

A very effective platform for Studies. It provides clear insights into a student’s performance, including strengths, gaps, and trends, along with helpful explanations for incorrect answers. Highly appreciated.

“The secret weapon every student should have” Dear Test Academy, This letter is to show my gratitude towards you, for helping me with my high school admissions. You have given me excellent academic adventures to go on even when I didn't feel confident at the beginning. This progress was beyond insane, so instead of keeping this joy all to myself, I thought "Why not share it with the people who were instrumental in my success?" I really hope you do read this... because trust me, you need to. It will make you as happy as I am! It all started last year, when I started working on my Selective exam. At this point I was terrified of the examination process as well as all the competition.I didn't know where to begin. It all felt very overwhelming. My dad asked one of his friends, whose son got into Selective, for some ideas. They said "Oh, I know the perfect website for you guys", and recommended Test Academy. Now, Test Academy, I'm not trying to be rude to you guys, but at first, I was as petrified as a cat! I wouldn't even come near it, since I was too afraid that I might get a bad score. However, that didn't stop my parents from encouraging me to try them out. So I thought, "Maybe I'll just go for it. My parents paid for the tests, and I don't wanna disappoint them," I started with scores around 35%, and 40%, and I would cry because of the terrible scores. I thought that I would do very badly in my actual exams, but I kept going. Your explanations and answers for the test questions really helped me out, and taught me along the way. As I continued, something surprising happened, I realised that the more I did them, the higher my scores were getting. My parents were right all this time. Eventually, I stopped feeling afraid to take on the challenges that you have to offer. Now, I apologize in advance if this letter is too long, but I have excellent news to share with you. I sat some ACER and AAS exams, to try and win a scholarship. A scholarship is not a joke. It's an amazing thing to achieve. When I was doing the exams though, I went from thinking in the worst case scenario to a positive mindset. Because of this, the news was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I got the results from three schools, Tara Anglican, Santa Sabina, and Northholm Grammar. At Tara, I was in the top four per cent in almost everything. In Santa Sabina, I did exceptionally well, but the best outcome was from Northholm Grammar. I was ecstatic beyond words, because a scholarship was something I have always wanted. Now, just remember this. The reason why I got this is because of you. You were the ones who made me smarter, who made me go through the real exam vibe, and made me grow to where I stand today. I hope this boosts your reputation, and when I grow older, I will definitely make sure to tell my younger friends about you. I still have my upcoming Selective Exam, but I feel very confident that I will do well in the test. Thank you for everything you have done for me. Yours sincerely, Akshaya Valluri PS: When the results for the selective examinations came in, I was on the wait-list for my top two choices, but got an offer from Penrith. Mind you, I was spending upwards of 20 hours a week on my music, so I had relatively very little time to focus on the Selective exam. Having "Test Academy" in my toolkit allowed me to make the best use of what little time I had, and the practice was just so invaluable, that the results from the exam were very very positive. I recommend to everyone, irrespective of where you get your tutoring or training, sign up for Test Academy's practice tests and be religious about practicing and you will notice excellent progress in your scores. There are upwards of 200 exams in total and at the end of it all, you will be like a well trained warrior.

My two children explored Test Academy for Selective and Opportunity exam. I am happy to share that my daughter got an opportunity class offer from Wollongong Public School and my son got an offer from a selective school (Karabar high school). Highly recommend Test academy due to their academic excellency, teaching quality and computer-based resources. I believe their continuous monitoring works to achieve this success. And one more thing, my both children achieved top 10% in the mathematical reasoning section.

We had a really positive experience with Test Academy’s OC online test platform. We purchased the online test package for our son, and we’re very happy to share that he received an OC offer! 🎉 He really enjoyed doing the mock tests and found the platform easy to use, with good-quality questions. It helped him get familiar with the OC test format, question types and time management, while also building his confidence. We’re very happy with the support the platform provided during his preparation and would definitely recommend it to other parents preparing for the OC test.

My son enrolled with Test Academy's 'OC Mastery' package in Term 1 of 2026. Recently he was successful at the OC exam (offer from Ashfield, reserve list for Ryde and Waitara Public Schools). Test Academy’s package was the only material we used for my son's OC journey and Arya and his team were very supportive throughout for his Opportunity Class exam preparation. Every weekend, for 12 weeks, my son took simulated OC tests in an exam environment and received specific and detailed feedback on his performance from his teacher Ms. Nethra. This detailed feedback highlighted specific areas for his improvement and helped to track his progress. Arya’s guidance in addition during the 12-week preparation phase were useful to work on focus areas. After the OC Mastery program was complete, my son also separately enrolled for the OC Mock Test package. In hindsight, we especially appreciate how accurately these mock tests resembled the actual OC exam - this is a reflection of the effort Arya put in for creating a realistic experience. These mock tests really helped my son in the final weeks with his preparation and his performance at the actual OC exam mirrored that in the Mock Tests. Some additional features of the Test Academy OC experience that helped my son with his preparation were: (1) Ample practice tests on the portal - While 50 tests were available initially, towards the final fortnight, when my son had worked through them all, Arya uploaded more tests for practice on request - this was useful and much appreciated. Students can take each test multiple times (useful to practice tricky questions/concepts) and parents get notified every time a test has been completed. (2) Leaderboard and XP points - These are fun, internal incentives that serve to keep children motivated as they track their own performance against peers and gather points as they learn from various tools on the site. (3) AI-enabled learning hub - With different levels of difficulty, this tool is useful for students to understand tips/strategies to improve in and to address specific question types in their focus areas (4) Prompt response on feedback - Arya was very responsive to feedback - for example, he made available a ‘Bookmark’ feature to flag tricky questions for quick review - this was useful in the last fortnight before the exam to review past mistakes etc. After the OC exam, I consulted Arya on 2 occasions to seek his inputs into school selection and then after my son received his OC offer, to assess potential decisions. Arya genuinely cares about his students and offered useful perspectives on both occasions. Overall, Test Academy’s intensive OC Mastery 12 week course is highly recommended for serious students willing to put in the work and prepare well for the OC exam. Arya and his team provided excellent support and without this Mastery program and its resources - my son would not have been able to confidently prepare for and subsequently, succeed at the OC exam! We look forward to exploring the Selective Exam packages in due time as we are happy with the rigour and professional preparation focus at Test Academy!

Questions

Things parents ask before they enrol.

When you enrol, our system guides you through a digital consultation on the student dashboard. We gather information about your child's strengths, weaknesses, and entry goals to complete their student profile — so that teaching is personalised from day one and we can make better recommendations as teachers.

If your child misses a session, they can attend any other available session that week — simply email us in advance to notify. Depending on availability, they may also be able to join an online session instead.

The Test Academy dashboard is your central hub. Parents can track improvement over time, view deep test analytics including percentiles and timing data, and review personalised teacher feedback after every session.

All tutors are selective high school graduates with a 98+ ATAR who have at least a few years of teaching experience. They are undertaking or have completed Law or STEM degrees at USyd or UNSW.

Yes — switching between online and in-person attendance is possible with notice to our admin team. We're happy to accommodate flexibility where we can.

Yes. During online enrolment, we offer a multi-term discount for families who are committed to ongoing preparation — just as we're committed to helping your child thrive.

Returning students who re-enrol for non-multi-term courses receive a 5% discount — permanently. Once you're part of the Test Academy family, you're always looked after.

Yes. A 5% sibling discount is provided upon request when two or more students from the same family are joining, or if an existing sibling is already enrolled with us.

That's great — they're already getting support, which is the most important thing. Many of our students actually come from other tutoring centres when they're looking for something more tailored, better technology and student engagement, and more personalised attention from top-quality teachers.

Ideally from Term 1 or Term 2 of Year 3. That said, we regularly help students make significant jumps in marks across all sections with just one term of preparation.

We offer a free first session subject to availability. That said, most parents commit knowing they can leave within the first two weeks — and almost all end up staying.

Just stationery, a snack, and water. Everything else — from printed booklets and worksheets to computers — is provided by us. We don't do BYOD.

Since the OC Test doesn't have a writing section, we replace it with a Mastery Test — a custom assessment that deliberately exposes students to question types they're still struggling with. This targeted approach finetunes their understanding and accelerates improvement where it matters most.

All the details

OC test preparation in Parramatta and online, explained properly.

For parents of a Year 3 or Year 4 child looking at opportunity class tutoring. Facts about the test come from the NSW Department of Education and are current as at September 2026.

What the OC test is and who sits it

An opportunity class is a two year program for Year 5 and Year 6 inside a NSW public primary school, for students the department describes as high potential and gifted. Entry is by the Opportunity Class Placement Test, sat in May of Year 4, with applications opening in early November of Year 3 and closing in February. For 2027 entry the test was on 8 and 9 May 2026 and outcomes came out on 9 September 2026. There are 89 opportunity classes across NSW with 1,840 Year 5 places, and the department's own guidance says about one in eight students who sit the test gains a place. Families can list up to two OC schools in order of preference. Western Sydney is well served; the department publishes the full list of opportunity classes. One thing worth knowing early: an OC place gives no advantage for selective high school entry later. That is a separate application in Year 5 and a separate test in Year 6.

What is on the OC test

Three sections, all multiple choice, each worth a third of the result: Reading (40 minutes, 14 questions, some with several parts), Mathematical Reasoning (40 minutes, 35 questions) and Thinking Skills (30 minutes, 30 questions). That is 110 minutes of testing on one day, on a computer, with no calculator. There is no writing section in the OC test; writing appears only in the selective test two years later. The department says the questions measure ability rather than what has been taught at school, which is why a child who gets everything right in class can still find the thinking skills questions unfamiliar. Naming each question type and practising it under the clock is most of what OC test preparation is. The placement procedures and the department's free OC practice tests are public; the department does not endorse any coaching, ours included.

Results, bands and the reserve list

Parents are not given a score or a rank. The performance report shows one of four bands per section: top 10 per cent, next 15 per cent, next 25 per cent, or the lowest 50 per cent. There are no set minimum entry scores and no published cut-offs. Outcomes are an offer, a reserve list place, an offer plus a higher-choice reserve, or unsuccessful; a reserve band from A to F gives a rough idea of how long students in that position waited the previous year, and OC offers from reserve lists can arrive up to the end of Term 1 in Year 6. Placement of one sibling does not affect another. From the 2027 intake each opportunity class holds a set number of places for girls and for boys.

Starting in Year 3, or in Year 4

The class takes both years, and the difference is pace rather than content. A Year 3 student is 12 to 18 months from the test and spends the year meeting each question type for the first time, building speed with numbers and reading longer passages than school asks for. A Year 4 student is inside the application window, and the weekly timed tests become the point: the same sections, the same clock, every week until May. Nobody needs to start in Year 2. Families who want a broader foundation before OC preparation usually take the Advanced Concepts Class first and move across when the child is ready.

What a week in the OC Mastery Class looks like

One 3.5 hour session a week in a class of eight, in Parramatta or online. The session opens with two fresh timed tests on the platform, alternating between Reading with Mathematical Reasoning one week and Thinking Skills with a Mastery Test the next; the Mastery Test is built from the question types that student is still getting wrong. During the break the tutor reads the analytics and prints a personalised booklet for each child showing what they chose, what was right and how long each question took, and the rest of the session is a whiteboard review taught from those booklets. Notes go on the parent dashboard and practice is set on LearningHub for the week. The biggest worry in every OC parent forum is running out of questions, so it is worth saying plainly: the tests are written fresh each term and the platform holds far more OC practice than a family can finish. If a week is missed, the tests are sat at home and the booklet waits for the next session.

Parramatta, Western Sydney and online

The centre is at Suite 107, 18-20 Ross Street, Parramatta, a short walk from the station, with families from Harris Park, Westmead, Granville, Rosehill, North Parramatta and across Western Sydney. The online class is the same session live with the same teacher, the tests are on the platform either way, and the booklet is sent as a PDF at the break. Fees are $122.50 a week, billed by the term at $35 an hour, plus a small materials fee shown before you pay; the multi-term discount applies when you book more than one term. A $10 deposit holds a place and a free trial class comes first. In 2026 every one of our OC Mastery students received an opportunity class place, from a small cohort that got a lot of attention. We say that plainly and we do not turn it into a guarantee, because nothing about placement is.
