Starting a practice test

1 min read Updated Oct. 2026
Where to find it
Dashboard > Practice > Take Tests Open it

Practice papers live on Dashboard, then Practice. Open the Take Tests tab, find the paper and press Start Test.

The Practice page

The page has three tabs:

  • Take Tests, the papers your bundles unlock
  • Results & Review, every attempt and its score
  • Bookmarks, questions saved while reviewing

Finding a paper

Each paper is a card showing its name, its duration in minutes and, for a writing paper, the style it asks for. Under the tabs is a row of subject chips: All Tests, then Mathematics, Thinking, Reading and Writing. A NAPLAN account sees Numeracy, Language Conventions, Reading and Writing instead. There is also a Search tests by name box.

On a phone the papers load a batch at a time, with a Show more button at the bottom of the grid.

Starting

  1. Press Start Test on the card.
  2. A Ready to Begin? window opens and sets out the conditions: the timer runs all the way to the end once you start and cannot be paused or restarted, A4 paper and a pencil are allowed for working out, sit it somewhere quiet, and the first serious attempt is the one compared against other students.
  3. Press Start Now. The timer begins immediately.

Papers already opened

  • Continue Attempt appears on a paper your child is part way through. It resumes the same attempt, and the clock has kept running since it began.
  • Attempt Again appears on a paper already finished. It starts a fresh attempt, and the same conditions window appears first.

Every attempt counts towards your child's own progress, so a second sitting is never wasted.
