Advanced Concepts Class, or ACC, is the foundation class for able Year 3 to Year 5 students. It builds the core skills in maths, thinking skills, English and writing that both the OC and the Selective tracks are built on, rather than teaching exam technique for one test. Sessions run in a small group in Parramatta or online, and the class times and term price are on the Class Schedule at the bottom of this page.
What is taught
- Mathematics: arithmetic fluency, problem solving and mathematical reasoning
- Thinking Skills and problem solving: pattern recognition, logical sequencing and abstract reasoning
- English and Reading: comprehension strategies, vocabulary and grammar
- Writing: structured paragraphs, and persuasive and narrative technique
The curriculum gets harder each year, but the most important foundation skills are deliberately retaught along the way, so a child joining in Year 4 or Year 5 is not left behind. Teachers look for gaps and cover them as part of normal teaching.
Where it leads
ACC is the starting point for both exam tracks, and students stay in it while they prepare.
- OC track: OC Mastery starts part way through Year 3, once a child is ready, and runs alongside ACC until just before the OC test early in Year 4.
- Selective track: ACC continues afterwards, and Selective Mastery starts in Year 5 and runs alongside it until just before the Selective test early in Year 6.
- ACC itself finishes at the end of Year 5.

Good to know
- Bring stationery, a snack and water. Booklets, worksheets and computers are provided.
- Mid-term enrolment is available, and you pay only for the sessions left in the term.
- If your child misses a session they can attend another session that week, subject to space. Email us beforehand.
- You can switch between attending in person and online with notice to the admin team.
