High School Maths Mastery takes Year 6 students through the whole Year 7 NSW mathematics syllabus, and an introduction to Year 8, before they start high school. It runs weekly in a small class, in Parramatta or online. The class times, class size and term price are on the Class Schedule at the bottom of this page.
Who it is for
- Year 6 students who have finished their Selective preparation and want to keep the momentum
- Year 6 students who are confident with primary maths and want a head start on high school
- Year 7 students who want to go back and firm up their foundations
Your child does not need to have sat the Selective test to join. What matters is that they are ready for Year 7 content.
What is covered
The course starts after the Year 6 Selective test, with a short break first, and runs over three terms.
- Consolidation: number mastery, fractions, decimals, percentages and measurement, to close any gaps before the new content starts
- Algebra: formal algebra, like terms, expanding and factorising, indices and index laws, algebraic fractions
- Equations and graphs: negative integers, equations with fractions and brackets, the Cartesian plane, gradient, linear relationships and distance and time graphs
- Geometry and measurement: angles and parallel lines, triangles and polygons, congruence, similarity and scale, circles, area, surface area and volume, and Pythagoras' theorem
- Statistics and probability
- Problem solving: multi-step problems that need reasoning rather than a memorised method
Each term ends with a test and a review session, with no new content that week. By the end of the course your child has covered the full Year 7 syllabus and made a start on Year 8. The course page lists the syllabus week by week.
What is included
- The weekly class and all course materials
- Weekly homework and practice sets
- Progress tracking and updates for parents
