Selective Mastery is the weekly class for Year 5 and Year 6 students preparing for the NSW Selective High School Placement Test. Each session runs for three and a half hours in a small group, in Parramatta or online. The class times, class size and term price are on the Class Schedule at the bottom of this page.
What a session covers
All four tested sections are covered on a fortnightly cycle, so each section is sat under timed conditions every second week.
- Odd weeks: Reading and Mathematical Reasoning
- Even weeks: Thinking Skills and Writing
How a session runs
- Students log in and settle in the testing lab.
- Two fresh timed tests are sat under exam conditions.
- During the snack break, tutors read the live analytics and print a personalised booklet for each student showing what they chose, what was correct, and how long they spent on each question.
- The rest of the session is an interactive review on the whiteboard, worked through from those booklets.
After the session the tutor sends feedback to parents, adds notes to the dashboard, and points students at the mock tests and LearningHub practice to do before the next class.
What is included
- The weekly class, all printed materials and weekly homework
- A personalised printed booklet every session, kept by the student
- Full mock tests on the Test Academy platform
- WritingHub, for writing practice with marked feedback
- LearningHub, for targeted skill practice between sessions
- The Student Forum, where tutors answer questions between classes
- The parent dashboard, with analytics after every session
- A parent and tutor consultation at the end of each term
