A parent or guardian sets the account up at /register/. It is free, and you need a mobile you can receive a text on and an inbox you can open while you fill the form in. The steps are shown along the top as Student, Account, Focus and Trial.
Student
The student's first name and last name, their date of birth, and your postcode. The student needs to be between 5 and 17 years old. Enter the details the way you would give them to a school: the same name, date of birth and postcode can later be used to sign in on the Student Identity tab.
Account
- Enter the parent or guardian email address. This is where login details, results and receipts go. The form expects a common provider such as Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo or Bigpond.
- If that address already belongs to an older brother or sister, the form offers you an alias of the same inbox, for example
your.name+1@gmail.com, and a Use this button. Each child gets their own login and every email still arrives in your one inbox. - Create a password of at least 8 characters including at least one number and one special character, then confirm it.
- Leave Send me important updates ticked. It is required at sign-up, and you can change what you receive later from your profile.
- Enter the parent's full name, first and last.
- Enter the parent mobile, choose Send verification code, and type the 6-digit code that arrives by text.
- Choose Send verification code beside your email address and type the 4-digit code that arrives in your inbox.
Continue only becomes available once both codes have been accepted.
Focus
Pick the closest match to what you came for: Selective Test Prep, OC Test Prep, NAPLAN practice, Conceptual Mastery, Maths, English and Writing help, Accelerated High School Maths, or Not sure yet. Three of them ask one more question so we open the right track: NAPLAN asks Year 3 or Year 5, Conceptual Mastery asks whether your child is in Year 3, 4 or 5, and the Maths, English and Writing help option asks a year from Year 1 to Year 6. The choice decides what your dashboard opens on, not what you are allowed to see, so you can explore everything once you are in.
Trial
The last step lists what the free account includes, asks you to agree to the Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy, and asks a short addition question as a security check. Choose Start Free Trial and you land on your dashboard.
If something goes wrong
- This email is already registered: that address already has an account. Log in instead, or use the alias the form suggests for a second child.
- Please use a common provider: the sign-up form does not accept work or school domains. Use a personal address, or ask us through Contact us.
- The mobile is not Australian or New Zealand: only those two countries can receive the code. Contact us and the team will register you.
- Invalid age: check the date of birth. Accounts are for students aged 5 to 17.
