Earning XP and badges

1 min read Updated Oct. 2026
Where to find it
Dashboard > XP

XP is the platform's points system. Your balance sits behind the yellow XP pill at the top of every dashboard screen, and the same panel lists how to earn more and lets you spend it.

How you earn it

The Your XP panel gives the four ways, and they are the honest ones:

  • Review your mistakes after a marked test.
  • Score well on your tests.
  • Answer questions on the LearningHub.
  • Submit and mark your Test Academy homework.

There is a ceiling on how much XP a single day of practice can earn, so a steady habit collects far more than one long session. Badges carry their own XP reward, which lands when the badge does.

How you spend it

Open the XP panel and choose View Shop Items to see what is available, then Redeem and confirm. Students who have the LearningHub can also choose Open the full shop for the same items on a bigger screen. XP is what unlocks the extra avatar animals and dashboard backgrounds on the Edit Profile page.

Badges

Badges are earned in the LearningHub and are shown on its Badges page, where a counter tells you how many of the full set you have. They are grouped into families, and each family is a ladder of tiers that gets harder as you climb it. The families reward different habits:

  • the number of questions you have answered;
  • keeping up across every section rather than one favourite;
  • progress in Maths, Thinking Skills, Reading and Writing separately;
  • practising on consecutive days;
  • answering quickly as well as correctly;
  • going back over your mistakes and looking after your saved questions.

A badge you have not earned yet shows how close you are, for example three of ten. Badges are awarded automatically, so there is nothing to claim.

XP and the leaderboard

They are separate. XP is yours to spend and does not decide where you sit on the leaderboard, which is built from your average test scores instead.
